A new fossil skeleton discovered from the Early Triassic in China is recently recognized as the most primitive member in a large group of marine reptiles, including all the well-known plesiosaurs and other sauropterygians, as well as bizarre placodonts, Atopodentatus, and enigmatic saurosphargids.
